How would one add a static DNS entry for an external system?
MNAME of the containing zone, you’ll try to UPDATE a server that’s not authoritative for the zone, and end up with that “NOTZONE” error.
I would start with everything explicitly specified – both “zone” and “server” – and if that works, then, if desired, troubleshoot where the lookup-based zone-and/or-server determination is falling down.
